Now in its seventh evolution, the Dura-Ace groupset introduces revolutionary new technology – a hollow chainring. Yes, you heard correctly – the outer chainring on the new 7900 Dura-Ace chainset is 100% hollow (think of it as HOLLOWTECH technology for your chainring).
The benefits speak for themselves – big weight savings yet an increase in stiffness of 20% for optimal power transfer. The chainring teeth have also been redesigned for improved chain contact and transfer of power – think smooth shifts even under high load.
The bottom bracket also gets improved sealing for smoother rotation and a longer service.
In light of current trends the 7900 Dura-Ace chainset will also be offered for the first time in a Dura-Ace branded compact chainset - 50/34T (FC-7950), and triathlon/time-trial specific ratios: 54/42T, 55/42T and 56/44T. The more standard combinations include 53/42T, 52/39T and 53/39T, whilst the crank arm lengths range from 165-180mm (going up in 2.5mm increments).
This high tech beauty is developed out of thin walled, hollow forged aluminium and although some 50g lighter than the current 7800 chainset (690g including BB) can boast of being 20% stiffer
